Why Do Women Read Romance Novels

Every once in a while, people ask me why I read romance novels. It usually surprises me because I think it's obvious. But maybe not. I read romance for several reasons:

*I am guaranteed a good ending
*I love the relationship and personal growth of the characters
*I love reliving the euphoria of falling in love which I feel that every time I read a romance novel
*It puts me in a good mood and I feel energized as if I can face the world again
*My husband likes the 'effect' it has on me ;-)

Why do you read romance novels? Let a comment and I'll enter you in a drawing for an e-book copy of my newest Regency Romance, The Guise of a Gentleman.

Hi Donna!,

I read romance novels because I love "playing pretend". I get to imagine myself in the heroine's place and live the exciting, tumultuous life you've written for her. I get to be as beautiful as she, and make love to the most incredible, mythical man. So for me, it is total escapism!

I love reading them for the same reasons!!! My husband tells me that since he isn't romantic, I have to find romance somewhere. But I'm not sure that's why I read them. I love the happy endings! I always imagine I'm the heroine! And I LOVE remembering how it feels to fall in love!!!

I love fairy tales. I read romance because I want the fairy tale and an escape from real life.

I love the strong characters. I love the happy endings.

I really enjoy romance novels because of the "escape" they offer into another world so much unlike my own. Usually I read historical romance, so the characters are often wearing beautifully trimmed gowns and attending a masked ball, whereas I am wearing droopy jeans and a hoodie covered in baby oatmeal. I like imagining my husband talking about me the way the hero always talks about the maiden. How she is so beautiful with her raven hair falling from its pins and her scarlet lips and her eyes blue as the sea after a storm etc. I like that there will be a happy ending and I like that true love always prevails!

I'm with all of you! I love romance - especially historical - because it's so different from my real life. The fantasy is just too much fun!

Thanks for stopping by and telling me why you read romance!

I love romance novels. I'm a complete romantic...I love happy endings, the angst in between and all the swooning at the start. ;)

Thanks again for everyone who stopped by and left a comment. We hopeless (or is it hopeful?) romantics need to stick together. Have a lovely day!

Was wondering if anyone would be put off by reading a novel from a mail author? Or if it would be a hook for you. I do not read much romance however I do love the happy endings and that feeling of being in love as well. Thanks Shelly
