Tristi Pinkston, guest author

Today my special guest is Tristi Pinkston. Tristi is the mother of four incredibly talented children, the wife of one incredibly handsome man, and the author of six incredibly awesome books. I guess a lot of her life is incredibly awesome ;-) Her most recent release, Dearly Departed, published by Walnut Springs Press is the sequel to Secret Sisters. Tristi enjoys reading, scrapbooking, watching good movies, and taking really long naps.

So Tristi, how to you manage to fit in hobbies like creative cooking and scrap booking, and still keep up with your family time and writing schedule?

I live my life in segments. For instance, one day I’ll try some new recipes, but I won’t write. Or another day, I’ll edit for a client, but I won’t work on my own story. Then another time, I’ll concentrate on my own projects and take a break from the other stuff. Then about once a week, I’ll take a night off and either scrapbook or watch a good movie. I do the bulk of my writing at night, after the kids are in bed. I don’t try to do it all at once—there’s really no way to get it all done. And housework takes place only when we know someone is coming over.

Donna: That sounds familiar, especially the housework part. So, what is the craziest, most reckless thing you've ever done?

I am not a reckless person. I don’t think I’ve ever done anything that could really be considered reckless. Crazy, though? Oh, sure! I do stuff like that all the time! There was the time I hid in the men’s bathroom at the Orem Public Library while playing a game of Sardines after hours (one of our friends worked at the library and had permission). Then there was the time I donned a red feather boa and sang at the LDStorymakers Writers Conference. (I dressed up as the Easter bunny another year.) Sometimes you just get the urge to do something a little unexpected, and you just gotta follow it.

Donna: Brave girl! Tristi, you have books published in several different genres. What is your favorite genre?

That’s a hard one. I love historical fiction because I learn so much while I’m researching it, and then I get to share what I learned with others as I write it. I have really enjoyed cozy mystery because I get to laugh while I write, and I love making my readers laugh. I also love making them cry … I’m mean that way. I’d never really done romance. But then this last November, I was writing a contemporary YA novel for National Novel Writing Month, and I constructed a really good romantic scene. I mean, this kiss I wrote was like the most perfect kiss, and I realized that maybe I really can write romance. It’s all so much fun.

Donna: Yeah, I hear you. Romance is my total favorite! What do you have planned next?

As far as publication goes, we’re going to be putting out the rest of The Secret Sisters Mysteries in a pretty regular fashion. We’ve been talking about maybe doing a cookbook to go along with the series, and I’ve written another cookbook as well, but none of that has gone beyond discussion stage, so it’s all still up in the air. I'd also like to get my first two novels back in print.

As far as writing goes, I’m running this YA novel through my critique group right now, and then I’m going to start another cozy mystery series that is a spin-off on The Secret Sisters Mysteries. I’ve got ideas for several other cozy series, and I’m really excited to see where they all take me.

Donna: Sounds great, Tristi. Thanks for visiting with me today. You can find our more about Tristi as a Bestselling Author here http://www.tristipinkston.com http://www.tristipinkston.blogspot.com
